Leading the way in Regional Emergency Communications for over 30 years!

Northwest CT Public Safety Communication Center has many functions as a modern, state of the art regional emergency communication center. Its two main functions are:

Regional C-MED Center
(Coordinated Medical Emergency Direction)

Serving the twenty-two towns and cities of the Central Naugatuck Valley and Housatonic Valley sub-regions of Northwest EMS Region V, with coordinated ambulance communications to the four area hospitals.  Northwest CT Public Safety works closely with local E.M.S. providers and the staff of local hospital emergency departments to provide the nost up-to-date efficient communication system, enhancing patient care.  By use of the system, a paramedic or EMT is able to talk directly with an Emergency Department Physician or Nurse to coordinate patient care.

Regional E 9-1-1 P.S.A.P. Center
(Public Safety Answering Point)

Serving eight communities with 9-11 PSAP service, along with dispatching and coordinating services.  9-11 calls from over forty cellular telephone sites are also answered by Northwest CT Public Safety.

Northwest CT Public Safety is proud to have been providing emergency communication services to the region for almost 30 years.  Having begun operations in the summer of 1975, handling approximately 12,000 calls for assistance, the Center now handles well over 100,000 calls annually.

Other functions:

Enhanced 9-1-1 and special services

The communication center is staffed 24/7, with a minimum of two highly trained State of Connecticut Certified Telecommunicators experienced in public safety.  Currently, Northwest CT Public Safety is serving as a primary E-9-1-1 Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) for the towns of Beacon Falls, Bethlehem, Oxford, Prospect, Roxbury and Woodbury and the secondary E-9-1-1 PSAP for Middlebury, the Borough of Naugatuck, and Seymour.  In addition to 9-1-1 PSAP duties, the communication center also handles all emergency communications for the fire departments and E.M.S. providers in those six primary E-9-1-1 communities, along with Naugatuck Ambulance Service and Middlebury Volunteer Fire Department.

In addition to the eight communities served with E-9-1-1 PSAP service, the Communication Center answers 9-1-1 calls  for over forty cellular telephone sites in the greater Waterbury area which covers the major highway interchange of I-84 and Rt. 8.

A state-of-the-art computer aided dispatch (CAD) system enhances Northwest's operational capabilities both on a daily basis as well as under extreme circumstances such as natural disaster, mass casualty incident or national crisis.

Northwest CT Public Safety is utilizing Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD) protocols on all 9-1-1 and EMS calls for assistance, offering pre-arrival instructions to the caller.

The Center also has the capability to transmit and receive on an 800 MHz. ITAC/ICALL Interoperability Radio Network, supplied by the State of Connecticut, Division of Homeland Security.
